Weekend

Wednesday, November 19 - 6:08 pm

Alison's parents are coming in town this weekend. They came the weekend before Thanksgiving because airfare is cheaper. They'll be here Friday through Monday, and we'll be going to the Memphis Botanical Gardens as well as the Dixon Gallery. I'll also be taking Alison's dad to the Tiger football game this weekend. It's going to be cold, so we'll be sure to bundle up!

Alison (and Ruth, the baby) are doing fine. We haven't had any appointments since the ultrasound, so there is nothing to report really. We'll be starting Bradley Method classes in January. I'm not really sure what that is, but we'll be doing it. :-)

Voting

Tuesday, November 4 - 10:47 am

I went to vote this morning in Olive Branch. When I got to the front of the line, the woman there asked my name. I spelled my last name for her, and she started looking for it. She showed me the voter registration info, pointed at a name, and asked if that was me. It was not. I told her that name was before mine alphabetically, and that I was likely on the next page. When she found my name, all I had to do was sign the form and vote. I probably could have voted several times, but I don't roll like that. Well, at least I did my civic duty (and got some free Starbucks coffee!)

In other news, people have complained this morning in Olive Branch about being turned away from the polls. The couple in front of me were two of the people turned away. They lived very near the voting location, but their voter registration cards had them voting at another nearby precinct (because they technically live outside of the city of Olive Branch.) I wonder how many of the people complaining actually went to the address on their voter registration cards.

iPhone Development Update

Tuesday, November 4 - 10:29 am

I found a way to get the latest version of the iPhone SDK working on my G5 Mac. I'm getting the hang of building the actual interface... now I just need to figure out how to get it to actually do something vs. sitting there looking pretty. :-)

iPhone Developer Needed

Thursday, October 30 - 8:54 am

Does anyone know an iPhone developer that will work for hire (for cheap?) I'm looking to create a front-end to my subscription-based website (http://www.nfpcharting.com). I charge my subscribers $2 a month, so it's not necessarily a huge money maker. I need an app that can authenticate to my web server, pull down charting data (just strings), and submit changes. I can write anything needed on the server side, but I don't have the ability (or the Intel Mac) to write an iPhone app.

I submitted a request for a quote to a couple of offshore developers, and they quoted me $8,000 - $10,000 USD. I'm looking for someone to work with me to create an app that I won't be charging for, and the $50-$75 a month I currently make on my website can't justify that kind of money.
